I've had to manipulate cookies in Javascript a number of times now. I've had so much code distributed over so many separate projects, that I've decided to collect it into one sort-of comprehensive set of functions. Here's the outcome.

see fit. And if you have nice and useful additions

- Here's a short synopsis (from the top of the source file):
/* Synopsis
Array cookie_names()
Purpose: returns all cookies for this domain
Example:
var names = cookie_names();
for (var i = 0; i < names[i]; i++)
// do something with cookie names[i]
[void] cookie_set(name, value, expires, path, domain, secure)
Purpose: Sets a cookie with a given name/value. All other arguments
may be null. When given:
expires - expiry time in the future (in days from now)
path - applicable path, '/' is a good choice
domain - specific domain, default is the current domain
secure - cookie should only be passed with https, not with http
Example:
cookie_set('mycookie', 'myvalue');
[string] cookie_get(name)
Purpose: Returns the value of the named cookie, or null.
Example:
var val = cookie_get('mycookie');
[void] cookie_delete(name)
Purpose: Deletes the named cookie (if it's there).
Example:
cookie_delete('mycookie');
[void] cookies_delete(blacklist)
Purpose: Deletes all cookies in the given blacklist array. The
array is optional, if absent, all cookies are killed.
Example:
cookies_delete(new Array('first', 'second')); // delete given 2
cookies_delete(); // delete all
[void] cookies_delete_except(whitelist)
Purpose: Deletes all cookies except when they are in the whitelist.
When the whitelist is absent, then nothing happens.
Example:
cookies_delete_except(new Array('first', 'second'));

runs the test in your browser: there is a short test below. You
can also get a stand-alone test file which does the same as
test.html.
Initializing
The code is contained in a file cookies.js which must be
sourced:

Setting Cookies
For example: This sets cookies named test0
through test9 having values value_of_test_0 and so on.

cookie_set('test' + i, 'value_of_test_' + i, 1, '/');
Getting the value of a given cookie
This returns the value of a given cookie, e.g. test4:

Listing all cookies
Function cookie_names() returns an array of the names of all
cookies:

Deleting one cookie
Function cookie_delete() removes a given cookie. It is
exactly the same as calling cookie_set() with value ''
(empty string). For example, this kills cookie test1:

Deleting a number of cookies
Function cookies_delete() (mind the s) deletes a
"blacklist" of cookies. E.g., the following kills
cookies test7 and test9:

Deleting all cookies but a few
Function cookies_delete_except() (mind the s)
deletes cookies except when they are in a "whitelist".
E.g., the following kills all cookies but test5 and
test6:
